Adrienne Doherty was my aunt.

She was born in Argyle Street, Derry in 1910, the daughter of Tom and Mary Anne Doherty. She was raised in Derry and had five sisters, Gwen, Bernadette, Angela, Mary Josephine and Gabrielle.

Known to the family as Lily, she had a very difficult birth, and nearly died. She was unable to walk after an injury when she was 8 years old. She spent most of her life at Beechwood Avenue, Derry. Because of her disability, she rarely ventured out of the house, except for an annual trip to Moville or Buncrana.

She died a spinster in Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry in 1980.
