Mary Hernan was my great great grandmother.

She was born Mary Cavanagh, in Inishowen, Co. Donegal about 1823 , probably in the townland of Carrowtrasna. She was the daughter of Michael and (unknown) Cavanagh. Mary had two sisters, Frances and Nancy, and one brother, John.

She married Denis Hernan, from Inishowen, in Moville in 1847. They had thirteen children: Charles, Anne (my great grandmother), Mary, Michael, Hugh, Joseph, Margaret, Denis, James, Kate, Patrick, John and Bridget.
